The decision to extend the National State of Disaster again has been met with sharp criticism from both medical experts and the political opposition. The State of Disaster is now set to expire on 15 April 2022.
The move to extend the State of Disaster despite promises to end it was sharply criticized by a health expert from the University of Witwatersrand, who said that the decision was “indicative of the NCCC being devoid of any understanding of the pandemic”.
Dlamini-Zuma’s announcement of the extension followed after the NCCC met on Monday to discuss alternative Covid-19 regulations to replace the regulations in the National State of Disaster.
Her decision is believed to have been a result of the NCCC failing to decide on new measures to manage Covid-19.
