From being trashed 4-1 by their cross-town rivals Manchester City to preparing for another big clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, Manchester United are putting up a fight to finish within the top four.


This is their last domestic game in March, before they face Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League last 16 second leg Tuesday, 15 March that will be followed by FIFA break.

Raphael Varane has returned to training after contracting Covid-19, but Cristiano Ronaldo has been working separately as he looks to regain full fitness following a hip problem.


Luke Shaw missed the Manchester City game, after also testing positive for the virus, with Alex Telles operating at left-back at the Etihad Stadium.


There are hopes Edinson Cavani could make his first appearance since the 1-1 draw at Burnley last month. The South American striker scored in the corresponding fixture with Spurs, a 3-0 victory in late October.


Bruno Fernandes was used in a ‘”false-nine” role in the derby, with Paul Pogba also quite advanced in a central position, in a change of tactics for the clash with their neighbours.

Marcus Rashford came off the bench for the second half and an update from the boss was expected on the striker situation in Friday’s press conference, regarding the possible availability of Cavani and Ronaldo.


Youngster Hannibal was among the substitutes last weekend and was training with the senior squad again on Wednesday.
