Gwede Mantashe, the ANC chair and energy and mineral resources minister, has vowed to be the first person in the ANC to take the commission report on review and will not step aside. The ANC has said it is on a renewal trial and among the ways of renewing the ANC is rooting out corruption in the party.
On Tuesday evening, the third and final instalment of the report into State Capture revealed that free security installations to Mantashe’s houses in the Eastern Cape and in Gauteng were paid for by Bosasa. The payments came as a way to get political backing from the Mantashe.
The enquiry found that there are reasonable grounds to investigate this matter, and this would uncover prima facie case against the former ANC secretary general for corruption. Mantashe said the state capture commission made its finding against him based on assumptions, for that he will take it on review. He further said his legal team is analysing the report which have implicated him with Bosasa.

It is important to note that Mantashe is the first person who plan to challenge the findings within the ANC. He is not part of the RET forces but rather falls under the Cyril Ramaphosa faction which supports the report in its entire form.
The ANC said its on a path of “Renewal” and with Mantashe planning on taking the report on review, it will be a problem for Rampahosa who has close relations with Mantashe. The key question that will have to be asked is why did Bosasa provide Mantashe with free security upgrades in two of his houses? If reasonable grounds are found to investigate the matter, then Mantashe would be called to step aside as like the others in the ANC have.
