Four people who’re believed to be the armed robbers were killed in a shootout that took place yesterday on Higginson Highway over the N2 in Chatsworth, Durban.
Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team said members in Chatsworth were alerted to a white Mercedes Benz with armed individuals who had been involved in a shooting incident with a security company in Morningside earlier on the day.

“Our members then spotted the wanted vehicle driving on the N2 southbound and they immediately pursued. When the suspects noticed our team members, they opened fire, and a high speed chase proceeded on the N2 south. During the chase, the suspects were relentless in making their escape and continued to shoot at our members,” said in a statement.
The robbers reportedly crashed into a truck just before they reached the Higginson Highway offramp.
The robbers then came out of the car and started firing on the members.
“Our members returned fire, during which three suspects were shot dead and one was wounded. Two suspects fled the scene on foot, and one of them was later found deceased on the N2 north bound after the M1 offramp after succumbing to his injuries. The other suspect still remains at large after fleeing into a dense bush.”

Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala, Police spokesperson said one robber who was taken to hospital is under guard of police.
As per the Police report, the robbers were already wanted for house break-ins and hijacking.
Further, the car that they were driving was stolen in Pinetown in December last year.
“The preliminary investigations conducted at the scene revealed that the same vehicle was used in a number of robberies in Durban and Richards Bay. The recovered vehicle was hijacked in Pinetown during December 2021. Signal jamming devices were also found inside the suspect’s vehicle.
“One of the suspects managed to flee the scene and is still being sought by police. Charges of inquest, attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms, and possession of a stolen vehicle are being investigated by Chatsworth SAPS.”
