Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered a military invasion into Ukraine on Thursday and has called on the Ukraine army to lay down its weapons. This announcement by Putin comes after the international community has called for a diplomatic solution and not to attack Ukraine.
The Russian president has warned that he will retaliate against anyone who interferes against him. This announcement was made in Moscow at 6 a.m. Russian time. In response Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky tried to call the Russian president last night to ask for a peaceful solution, but Putin did not respond. Zelensky reported that Moscow now has about 200 000 soldiers near the Ukraine border.
Missiles have been fired in Kiev and an assault was launched in Odessa hours after Putin started the military operation. The Boris Hill airport has been attacked and another one in the north which is an airbase. The border forces of Ukraine have come under attack by Russian troops and Belarus soldiers. Russian troops are entering Ukraine from a border crossing from Belarus.

The separatist leaders of Lugansk and Donetsk wrote to the Russian president before he launched the operation, asking him to “help them repel Ukraine’s aggression.” Putin sparked outrage when he recognised the two separatist groups’ independence which infringed on the peace agreement which had been reached. Russia was sanctioned after making this decision, but that did not deter Putin from invading Ukraine.
Russia has been demanding that Ukraine should be forbidden from ever joining NATO which would give it protection and that the United States troops should leave Eastern Europe.
