Wiaan Liebenberg (29), the star loose forward, who captained the Junior Springbok team to victory on home soil in 2012, has decided to retire as a professional player when the current season comes to an end.
It’s his club Stade Rocheilas who confirmed the news on their website with the 2012 IRB Junior World Championship winner demonstrating no regrets of his decision.

“It’s still weird for me to think that I’m going to stop. It’s been a great adventure so far, but I can’t wait for another one,” Liebenberg said in a club statement.
“I really have no regrets. I showed everything I wanted to show, I gave everything. I would have liked to win a title, but in my life there are more important things than winning titles. I still have a few months left and I will give everything,” added Liebenberg.

After starting his career at the Blue Bulls of Pretoria (South Africa), Wiaan arrived in France in 2015, in Montpellier. After three seasons in Hérault, he joined the club as a medical joker in November 2018. He quickly integrated into the team, both on the pitch and in the locker room.

It was after four great seasons in Yellow and Black (68 matches today) that he decided to end his rugby career.
His decision, which emerged during confinement, was mature and carefully considered by the player who recently obtained his diploma in wealth management.
Stade Rochelais wishes him a good end to the season with the Yellow and Black group and a lot of success in his new projects at the end of the season.
