Unruly pupils stoned cars and damaged school property in Phoenix on Monday. Police had to disperse the learners after the TikTok challenge turned violent. The “Umlando no school bag” challenge has been endorsed by schools all over the country.
In other provinces the learners are seen going to school carrying braai stands, washing machine and microwaves instead of carrying their school bags. The challenge, which is meant to be funny, has taken a turn for the worst.
In Kwa Zulu-Natal the learners in Phoenix have been seen dancing on top of cars and damaging school property. A video was shared on Facebook by a VIP protection services company on Monday, where a pupil is seen dancing and jumping on top of a car which does not belong to him.
Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said on Monday: “pupils from schools in Phoenix embarked on rebellious behaviour by illegally gathering in groups, stoning vehicles, disrupting school and damaging school property.”

The TikTok challenge what was meant to be funny with males and females dressing like each other, has now resulted in property damage and police working hard to disperse learners from schools in Phoenix who cannot behave.
