The home of former South African president Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela has been converted into a luxurious hotel and is officially open to the public. The house in Houghton with its beautiful gardens is now an inn. People who wish to visit and sleep at the anti apartheid revolutionary’s house now can do so.
The current business venture is said to be in honour of the late struggle hero, and this serves to honour him and his legacy. The Houghton home has not only turned into a resort but also has a nice restaurant which prepares your classic South African dishes. The menu has been well thought through and is meant to be in remembrance of the late president.
Sanctuary Mandela will be able to accommodate approximately eighteen people as it has a total of nine bedrooms. The price for the rooms varies from your standard rooms which cost R3 907,50 per night, while the presidential suit will cost R1 5028,22 per night.
The Mandela home is very popular and has hosted the most prominent people you can imagine. The former United States president Bill Clinton was Nelson Mandela’s friend and has been to the Houghton home.
When Mandela passed away in 2013, news coverage of his passing was broadcast on all the news channels you can think of. International guests came to pay tribute to the fallen giant and the Houghton home was crowded with people of all races.
