A woman from Osizweni from Kwa-Zulu Natal has been arrested for opening a false rape case.
Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala revealed that the suspect alleged that on Friday 11 February 2022 she was attacked by two men (brothers) who raped her.
The charges of rape were opened and the two suspects were arrested.
After an intensive investigation by the police, it was found that the complainant was lying.
The woman was charged with perjury and appeared in the Madadeni Magistrates Court on Monday 14 February 2022.
She was remanded in custody pending the next court date.
Gwala has appealed to the citizens to not report false cases as it wastes the police resources.
“We once again appeal to our citizens to refrain from reporting false cases as valuable police resources are wasted chasing untrue allegations, thus depriving genuine victims of crimes from realising justice,” said Gwala.
