A Tanzanian woman shocked the internet after revealing that she is on a steady diet of cockroaches.
According to Tanzanian singer, Saumu Hamisi, cockroaches are not only tasty but they have also helped her bring in an income after her poultry business fell through.
After Hamisi lost her chicken business, she turned to cockroaches, when she tried them she found them to be tasty and she started selling them to her neighbours.
When it comes to other people’s opinions of her bizarre taste in food, Saumu could not care less:
“Some said I was mad but cockroaches earn me money so I don’t care about people’s opinions,” she said in an interview.
“It is one of my favourite meals. You can eat them raw, you can cook them with coconut or accompanied with with ugali or rice,” she said.
She explained that she eats a specific type of cockroach that she breeds at home and warned against eating any kind of cockroach.
“I bought these from an institute located in Morogoro. They do not have diseases in their bodies and I ensure they stay in a clean environment,” she said.
