A mother who says she is addicted to surrogacy is preparing to get pregnant with her 10th baby for another family.
Laura McCarthy, 31, carried five babies, including twins last year, for parents who could not have children of their own. She also has four of her own children.
She first became a surrogate 11 years ago and has been addicted to it ever since.
None of Laura’s surrogate babies were genetically hers, as the pregnancies were successful through in vitro fertilization (IVF), meaning the couple’s fertilized egg was implanted in Laura’s uterus.
She told The Daily Record that people have a misperception that surrogates make a lot of money and also that surrogates become motherly attached to the babies.
“As soon as you see the baby in their arms, you can immediately see that unconditional love. It’s just so worth it. That feeling can be a little addictive.”
