SA plans rules, tax for Vaping

If you like to Vape, you may soon face rules as well as pay taxes for your Vaping products.

This comes after the National Treasury published a discussion document setting out a proposal on the taxation of electronic nicotine and non-nicotine delivery systems (ENDS).

The government has already said in its previous two budget speeches that it plans to start taxing these two products.

The Treasury has indicated that a tax can be imposed on both the device and the oil used in it. This will allow products with a higher nicotine concentration to carry a higher tax – in line with other high nicotine products such as cigarettes.

The proposal document is open for comment until 25 January 2022.
