A horse is stuck on an island in the Vaal River, just outside Barkly West.

Horse lovers are currently on the scene trying to help where they can.

Marie Wiese, from the Horse Club in Kimberley, says they heard about the horse yesterday, but it was already too late and it was getting dark.

Early this morning, a group of people went to the scene, where the animal was stuck in the middle of the river on a small piece of dry earth. “We do not know at all how it got there, or whose it is. We do not even know if it is a tame or wild horse. “

This image was taken with a drone.

Wiese says the river is extremely strong, with currents coming down after dams were apparently opened after the heavy rains that the area has experienced recently. “There is about 100m of water on either side of the horse. We cannot see the horse from where we are standing at all. We sent a drone to take pictures. “

Emergency services are apparently on their way to the scene, but it is uncertain how the horse can be rescued. “I almost want to say that only a helicopter can save him. We are especially worried if the currents get stronger and the horse no longer has room to stand. ”
