Britain is facing a tidal wave of infections from the new Omicron coronavirus variant, ministers have warned, that they need to sound the alarm on rapid transmission rates in London and across the country.

Health Secretary, Sajid Javid, warned on Monday that the data on Omicron infections is unlike of earlier variants.

More so, speaking during a visit to a vaccination clinic near Paddington, in west London, Boris Johnson said: “sadly yes Omicron is producing hospitalisations and sadly at one patient has been confirmed to have died with Omicron.

Following this, on Sunday, Prime Minister, Boris Johnson set a new target offering all adults a third shot by end December — a month earlier than originally planned.

He previously cut the interval between second and third doses from six months to three. The British government focused its Covid response around the vaccine program since last summer, and resisted reimposing restrictions until Omicron variant came to light.
