Beryl Kruger (36) was blessed with an amazing voice like no other and says she used her voice to escape a difficult childhood.

Beryl moved to Kimberley in 2013 and has been married to her husband, Duane, for 18 years and the couple has two sons.

“I am worship director, vvents co-ordinator and personal assistant to our senior pastor, HR officer, student at CLT Bible School and head at a music academy which is aimed at helping people of all ages to refine their musical skills and abilities.”

Beryl says she has been singing for 21 years.

“I discovered that I could sing at the age of 15 years old. Since then, I have invested time in developing this gift. I am now experiencing the fruit of committing to the process of growth. Singing has always been a place and way of escape for me as my childhood was not an easy one. The music on my playlist has always inspired me through dark and difficult times in my life.”

She is a lover of music and therefor loves to sing most genres including rock, soul, R&B, jazz and reggae.

“If I really had to choose, it would be Christian contemporary music. This music motivates me, it builds me up and is a source of encouragement for me. It is more that just music. I truly love worshipping my God. If I could praise and worship through song forever, I would.”

Beryl says she went through a very difficult time in life when her father died when she was just 11 years old.

“When I was 11 years old, my father took his own life. This left me with many questions. I later grew up having a low sense of value and worth. The thoughts that would bombard my mind was that I was not worth enough for Dad to decide to stay alive. “Couldn’t he have remained alive, just for me?” So I was a depressed teenager with no self-love and no joy whatsoever, keeping suicide as an option at all times. I remember, my mom would always go through my room to remove dangerous items with which I could hurt myself. I didn’t want to live.”

Beryl’s life luckily dramatically changed when a friend reached out to her.

“My life took a turn when a friend gave me a cassette with Hillsong music on it. The first time I heard this music, I experienced peace that I have never known. I would go to bed with Hillsong music playing, and if I woke up in the middle of the night, I would turn the cassette (for everyone who knows what a cassette is) around and have it continue playing. This (peace of God) music stilled every tormenting thought in my mind. When the music stopped, the negative thoughts started, so I kept the music playing. This was the beginning of my journey with my Jesus.”

Beryl says she would like to inspire others with her story.

“Respect the process. Be open to good, sound mentorship in your life. Focus on building character in every situation and circumstance. Many opportunities will come and go in your life, but it is the inward capacity that enables you to live a fulfilled, purpose-driven, successful life – in every season of your life. Success is not based upon the reality of your perception but the perception of your reality. You are not meant to do life alone. Be open to guidance, direction and instruction.”
