The Police Minister Bheki Cele says he foresaw the problems leading up to Zuma’s incarceration, and purposely went to Nkandla to make attempts in defusing the tense situation.
To rub more salt into the wounds, it has emerged that the National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole was unavailable at the lead up to former president Jacob Zuma’s incarceration, “I invited the national commissioner to come to Durban. For some reason he did not avail himself to come,” said Bheki Cele during the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) hearings into the July riots and looting.
Because the July unrest was foresaw, it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of South Africans, that the National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole was missing in action, despite all hands were needed on deck.
Cele was on the stand at the Human Rights Commission hearings into the July unrest, which resulted in the deaths of more than 300 people dead.
The Police Minister, Bheki Cele, concludes that it took the whole day for former President Jacob Zuma to hand himself over to start serving his jail term.
Bheki Cele also acknowledges the July civil unrest could have been handled better by law enforcement officials.
