A 34-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his father to death during an argument over a piece of meat has appeared in the Vredefort Magistrates Court in Free State where he is facing a murder charge.

Kgosi Sehume allegedly stabbed his 55-year-old father to death at their Vredefort home over the weekend.

SAPS spokesperson for the Fezile Dabi District, Sargeant Josephine Rani said that Sehume was at home with his girlfriend and father when a fight broke out over meat that his father had bought.

“On Saturday 2021-11-27 at about 16:38 the suspect was at home with his girlfriend and his father when a fight ensued over meat,” Rani said.

“It is alleged that the suspect wanted to take the meat which the victim bought and the victim refused. During their argument the son stabbed his father twice under the left arm and ran away, Rani said.

Rani said that Sehume’s father had attempted to chase his son moments before he fell to the ground and died after sustaining the stab wounds under his arm.

“The neighbours noticed the victim fall after hearing noises and they contacted the police,” she said.

SAPS Warrant Officer Petrus Nhlapo arrested the suspect where he found him at one of his friend’s house not far from his home in the Free State.

Sehume is still in custody and is expected to appear in court on 2 December 2021 for his bail application.
