Artist spouse convicted for murder in Upington

After three and a half years , the noble artist, Carl Walter Meyer’s family and friends finally found closure after justice has served its purpose.

On Monday, 29 November 2021, Sophia Meyer (31) appeared in the Upington Magistrate Court, where she was convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for the murder of her late husband, Carl Walter Meyer.

On 22 December 2017 at about 22h00 after an argument between the couple, Mr Carl Walter Meyer who was (52) at the time of the incident occurred and Mrs Sophia Meyer (31), after she arrived at their residence with Joel Marsel Joseph Dumont (60) who was later discovered to be her boyfriend.

Sophia Meyer ended up stabbing her husband to death in the chest with a knife and he was declared dead on the scene. Both suspects were arrested the same day. On 2021-07-21 Joel Marsel Joseph Dumont (60) appeared in the Upington Magistrate Court and he was found not guilty.

The Upington Detective Head, Leutenant Colonel Wilma Van Den Heerder, applauded the Investigating Officer, Warrant Officer Steven Roos of the Upington Detective
unit for the commendable efforts and commitment displayed in his investigative work.
