Questions about how Miss. SA, Lalela Mswane, “sneaked” into Israel after Israel banned traveling from South Africa last week, came to light.
Braam Hanekom from Africa4Palestine expressed his concern to EWN about how Mswane came to Israel.
“Israel imposes a travel ban on our country, but somehow in the dark of night Lalela can sneak herself into Israel,” he said.
Mswane has been widely criticized for deciding to take part in the event in Israel and #NotMyMissSA trended on Twitter this weekend after Mswane posted photos from inside Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv.
Mswane will participate in the Miss Universe Competition in Israel within the next two weeks.
Palestinian activist Taahira Abrahams said on Monday it was difficult to see Miss. South Africa prepare for the catwalk.
“She would not have been able to participate on that stage if people had not boycotted apartheid in South Africa, because that is how the apartheid regime in South Africa ended. Smiling in an apartheid state and holding a flag is extremely disappointing.”
