There has been no official confirmation of reports that killer Oscar Pistorius was moved from the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Facility in Pretoria to a prison in Gqeberha.
According to the HeraldLive, Pistorius was transferred to the St Albans Correctional Centre in Gqeberha late on Friday evening, 26 November 2021. St Albans houses 3 200 of the most dangerous killers and rapists in South Africa, leading to Pistorius being “spared” from the general cells that are said to hold up to 44 prisoners.
There has been no confirmation yet from the Department of Correctional Services as to the facts surrounding the claim that Oscar Pistorius was moved.
However, according to the HeraldLive, the move was aimed at allowing Reeva’s parents to engage with Pistorius. It is not yet clear if and when he will meet with the Steenkamps.
The Department of Correctional Services confirmed earlier this month that Pistorius’ parole process is underway but was delayed due to logistical difficulties due to Pistorius being jailed in Gauteng while the Steenkamps live in another province.
Oscar Pistorius shot Reeva Steenkamp four times on Valentine’s Day in 2013, claiming he believed she was an intruder.
