Teenager shot dead, two females held hostage

A hostage situation got out of hand on Saturday evening leading to a teenager being shot dead.

Capt. Tessa Jansen, spokesperson for the police in the Northern Cape, said three people were allegedly held hostage at approximately 21:20 on a farm on the R64 between Kimberley and Boshoff.

On arrival at the scene, police found two men who alleged that a relative shot a teenager with a rifle and that two more women are being held hostage.

“The police negotiator and TRT was activated and upon arrival they were directed to a suspect, a 40-year-old man. He was outside the house.” It is not clear how the women was released from the hostage situation.

The police were directed to where the firearm was hidden after the hostage situation and they also found a teenage boy with a wound to the chest. The teenager was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

“The police are investigating a case of murder, as well as defeating the ends of justice.

Two men were arrested and will appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court.
