A “dead” Indian man, who was declared dead after a road accident, was still breathing, despite his night in the morgue’s freezer.
Srikesh Kumar, 45, was rushed to a clinic in a critical condition after being hit by a motorcycle in Moradabad, east of the capital New Delhi.
According to reports, Kumar was transported to a private medical facility where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on arrival. He was then transported to a state hospital for a post-mortem examination and then to the morgue – this would take place on Friday.
No signs of life Rajendra Kumar, the hospital’s medical superintendent, told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the emergency medical officer was investigating Srikesh.
“He found no signs of life and therefore declared himself dead. The doctor informed the police and the body was placed in the freezer at the morgue until his family arrived six hours later.
“When a police officer and his family came to start the paperwork for the autopsy of the dead man, he was alive,” Kumar added.
The 45-year-old is reportedly undergoing further treatment and is still in a coma. “This is nothing short of a miracle,” said Rajendra Kumar.
“An investigation is underway to determine how the doctors could have wrongly declared him dead.”
