Load shedding has been suspended from Friday (12 November), 05:00 with no word yet from Eskom as to when South Africans should expect another round of outages.
During a briefing on Thursday, De Ruyter attributed the move to suspend load shedding to an improvement in Eskom’s generation system.
“We will maintain stage 2 until 5am tomorrow morning, Friday and we will then be in a position to lift load shedding, as by then, the system will have sufficiently recovered that we can continue to operate and meet normal demand,” De Ruyter said.
Eskom thanked its customers for their patience and assistance during the current load shedding period but also reminded them to use electricity sparingly and switch off non-essential items.
“Taken together, these small cumulative savings result in large savings in electricity capacity and reduce the probability of load shedding,” says spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha.
Eskom has been struggling to keep the lights on since the beginning of October.
Speaking on the noncompliant municipalities, Eskom group executive for distribution Monde Bala said some had disputed this but the matter had been handed over to the energy regulator.
“One municipality had cited infrastructure challenges. In Limpopo, one municipality said they could not open and close their breakers and this resulted in them not being able to be fully compliant,” Bala said.
