Gqeberha: Police opened a case of culpable homicide against a taxi driver who allegedly killed a teenager with his vehicle in a hit and run attempt on Monday.
According to the Eastern Cape SAPS report, the driver fatally hit the teenager and did not bother to stop.
“A 30-year-old taxi driver was arrested last night and detained on a charge of culpable homicide after allegedly fatally hitting a 14-year-old teenager and failed to stop at the accident yesterday afternoon, 01 November 2021,” SAPS Colonel Priscilla Naidu said.
A witness, who was not about to allow the suspect to get away with the alleged hit and run, acted fast in an attempt to help police make the arrest.
“It is alleged that at about 17:15, Luke Mathew Prinsloo was riding his bicycle on the Van Den Kemp Kloof Bridge in Stanford Road when he was hit by the taxi driver. The taxi driver failed to stop and the registration number of the vehicle was taken down and handed to police. Details of the accident are still sketchy and is under investigation,” Naidu said.
