Beefmaster South Africa welcomed the news by the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development that the Foot-and-Mouth (FMD) disease-affected zone in KwaZulu Natal had been reduced.
According to Beefmaster supply chain executive Roelie van Reenen, “This is a step in the direction to getting the disease under control. Although we are not out of the woods yet, greater cooperation among all stakeholders in the livestock industry is needed in order to get the disease under control. The only way we are going to do this is if we have movement restrictions in place, so the government is doing what it must to ensure it plays its part in curbing the outbreak.”
