Timothy McAnda (30), a proud Kimberlite, says he does not shy away from challenges and has learned that you should never judge a book by its cover.
Timothy began his career in telecommunications in 2012 and has since reached many successes.
“I began my career within the telecommunications industry in 2012 with Cell C North Cape Mall as a sales consultant. I thereafter managed to work my way up to store manager, but it was not long after that when I was offered an opportunity to work with one of the leading brands, Samsung, as a product consultant for two years. During that time I worked in the product training and services field and later became a trainer for the Northern Cape region.
“With all this experience gained, the platform for my next challenge was created. That being an offer to work as an area sales manager for a new and emerging brand that was then unknown in South Africa, OPPO. And as I am not one to shy away from challenges, I did not hesitate, and I have not looked back since.”
Timothy is also an avid gamer and likes to ease his tension by washing his car.
When asked who inspires him the most, he says it is very difficult for him to single one person out.
“It would be wrong of me to highlight a single individual, but there are many such people in my life and surrounding environment who I learn from on a daily basis. Growing up I was always told to take a page from the books of the lives of others and learn from their mistakes and should there be a time that I do make a mistake I should not let it define me, but rather let it strengthen my resolve, adjust my mindset, learn from it and build on it.”
He also learned some tough lessons in life.
“Do not judge a book by its covers and not everyone you meet will have your best interests at heart. Don’t easily be offended by the words and actions of others whether it be against you or your character, but stay true to who you are. Because you are the only version of you.”
Timothy says he would like to see himself in a more senior management role in five years and personally liase with his international employers.
“On a personal level, I have always wanted to learn a new language.”
He is lactose intolerant and prefers lemon meringue pie to chocolate cake.
“Do not be afraid of hard work, if you want to reach the top, you must start at the bottom. There are no shortcuts to reaching your goals. There will be stumbling blocks, that’s guaranteed ,but do not let it define you or break you – stay focused and keep your eye on the prize.”
