Transport minister, Fikile Mbalula made a social media post on Saturday evening that backfired quite spectacularly on him. In the post, he vowed that the “The ANC will fix roads, potholes, sewage spills, and broken water pipes.“
Now the state of South African roads leaves a lot to be desired with large, dangerous potholes on major roads and entire stretches of highways that need to be resurfaced and so Mbalula probably thought that his promise would be music to the ears of the public but he was sadly mistaken.
The post ended up getting “ratioed” (an online term for when the reaction to a Tweet sparks more attention than the original post itself). He ended up being criticized for the promise as most claim that since the ANC has been in power for 27 years, there should not have problems with roads, sewage pipes and water systems and the fact that they need to be fixed only seems to reflect badly on the ruling party.
