According to police, a gas station employee in the town of Isar-Oberstein, in Germany, lost his life after a dispute with a customer over Covid-19 measures. According to the police report, a 49-year-old man is suspected of having shot a gas station employee on Saturday evening, over a mask-wearing requirement at the establishment.
It is said that the man entered the gas station without wearing a face mask and the 20-year-old employee asked him to comply with the regulation. The two reportedly got into an argument which caused the maskless man to leave, however according to the police, the man is said to have returned roughly an hour later.
This time he was wearing a mask, which he removed and the men started another argument after which the suspect took out a concealed revolver and shot the gas station employee.
Senior public prosecutor, Kai Fuhrmann said that the victim died after a fatal shot to the head and after the shooting the suspect is said to have fled on foot.
Authorities arrived at the scene and began the search for the suspect but the following day he walked into the police station and confessed to the crime.
The suspect allegedly told officers that he was against Covid-19 restrictive measures and the pandemic had greatly stressed him. He said that he felt cornered and “saw no other way out” than to set and example. The suspect held the victim “responsible for the overall situation because he enforced the rules,” Fuhrmann said.
