It was confirmed by the Pentagon press secretary that an explosion took place outside an airport in Kabul, Afghanistan on Thursday. “We can confirm an explosion outside Kabul airport. Casualties are unclear at this time. We will provide additional details when we can,” Kirby said. Reporting from the ground, however, suggested at least a dozen casualties.
Two powerful explosions hit one of the main entrances at Kabul’s international airport, killing at least 13 people. The explosions follow only hours after western intelligence agencies warned of an imminent and “very credible” terrorist threat.
Initials reports claim that at least three American marines were injured in the blast and US officials claim that the attack involved one suicide bombing close to the Abbey Gate entrance with the second attack occurring near the Baron hotel.
A Taliban spokesperson said the attack killed at least thirteen people, including children with Taliban guards among the wounded.
