The Eastern Cape Transport Department has just revealed that the death toll in Monday’s horror bus accident has risen to 30.

The DMJ long-distance luxury bus was travelling from Cape Town to Mount Frere when it crashed in the late afternoon.

According to provincial transport department spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, the driver of the bus lost control at the notorious Kei Cuttings site, a few kilometers from the Kei Bridge. The driver of the bus is among the dead, which includes a baby.

Passengers, who had apparently started their journey in Cape Town, were trapped inside the bus as the bus plunged 200 meters down a steep embankment.

It is possible that the death toll from the bus accident could still rise.
