One earth tremor would be more than enough for any person, especially in South Africa, now four is just excessive.
Alas South Africa recorded a quartet of light quakes on Sunday, with parts of Gauteng and Mpumalanga rocked by some pretty significant seismic activity.
Two of the tremors occurred within 33 minutes of each other in the early hours of 1 August – in the same location, Carletonville, with the rumblings reaching 2.6 and 3.3 on the Richer Scale.
Meanwhile a follow-up quake was noted in Boksburg just after 11:00, recording a modest magnitude of 2.5.
Then later on Sunday evening, another tremor hit the northeast and surfaced in Mpumalanga. The town of Coalville witnessed a seismic tremor of 2.7.
A tremor is the term commonly used for any seismic activity that registers below 4.0 on the Richter Scale, anything above this level is an “earthquake”.
