According to a statement by the government, the serving president of Haiti was killed at his home early on Wednesday morning.
Haitian Prime Minister, Claude Joseph, said that Jovonel Moïse, the president of Haiti, was killed in his private residence around 1:00 am Wednesday morning by a group of assassins.
The statement did not identify the assailants but did say that they were Spanish-speaking.
The first lady was also injured by a gunshot, according to the statement.
