The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning that the Coronavirus variants are evolving faster than the vaccines are being rolled-out. WHO urged world leaders to pick up the pace on their vaccine rollout programs or risk being overwhelmed with new Covid cases.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghevreyesus, the Director General of the WHO, stated that the extremely contagious Delta variant, which was first identified in India, is “outpacing” vaccinations.

“The Delta variant is dangerous and is continuing to evolve and mutate, which requires constant evaluation and careful adjustment of the public health response,” Ghebreyesus said.

Ghebreyesus also said that he expects that by July 20222, 70% of people in every country should be vaccinated but experts are worried that the longer large groups go unvaccinated, the more likely is, is that the virus will mutate into even worse variants.

The warning from the WHO comes as the Delta variant continues to spread across the globe at a rapid pace.
