A Philippine fast-food chain has closed one of its stores after a woman claimed she found a towel in her batter instead of fried chicken.
Facebook user ‘Alique Perez’ posted several clips of her pulling apart the battered meal and apparently revealing a hand towel inside instead of chicken in a post that has been viewed 2.4 million times since 1st June.
According to Perez, she had a Chickenjoy meal delivered to her home from the Philippine fast-food chain Jollibee. She said she was trying to cut off a piece of chicken for her son to try when she found it “super hard” to slice through the batter.
Perez said: “This is really disturbing… How the hell do you get the towel in the batter and even fry it?” She added: “I really thought that the post complaining about weird stuff in their orders were just all made up, now I know that it really happens! So disgusting and embarrassing.
“The essence of the towel contaminated the oil and the batter from the supplier so how many chickenjoys are affected? We won’t know…” After Perez’s post went viral, Jollibee said that they will temporarily close the restaurant in Bonifacio Global City in Metro Manila in the Philippines later the same day.
Vowing to keep the store closed for a minimum of three days, the company said they would “thoroughly review its compliance with procedures” and retrain workers to make sure such an incident is never repeated.
It is unclear if the customer will be compensated for her experience and whether the local authorities are investigating the matter.
