Slump in birth rates
Research shows that the US is facing the biggest decline in birth rates in a century and in parts of Europe the decline is even steeper. Those who study population did not find this surprising with how bad the pandemic has been.
A survey of fertility plans in Europe showed that 50% of people in Germany and France who had planned on having a child in 2020 decided to postpone it. While in Italy 37% said that they abandoned the idea of having children altogether.
In the US there was an 8% drop in birth rates in the month of December.
