Rugby items snatched up on the Care 4 Kings online auction

SOUTH AFRICA. – The biggest online rugby and sports memorabilia auction is currently underway, ending tonight at 20:00.

This fundraising initiative, held by former Springbok rugbyplayer Braam van Straaten, is  in support of Care 4 Kings.

Van Straaten says he is amazed at the interest in the auction. “With only a few hours left, people have already made bids on nearly all the items. There are only THREE items on which no bid has been placed. This is astonishing – and I am so thankful for supporters who really go out of their way to support this initiative,” he said.

The bid on an All Blacks jersey, signed by Dan Carter, currently stands on R7 500; a framed picture of him has already reached R2800; and a picture of All Black Legends 2011 IRB World cup winners has reached R4 000.

In addition, three Springbok rugby jerseys stand at R7 000; Mannetjies Roux’s original Springbok blazer is on R12 000; one of only 3 000 Springbok jerseys with logos from 1906, including a certificate, has reached R5 000; a replica of Piet Visagie’s Springbok jersey started at R10 000; Mzwandile Wanky Stick’s rugby jersey in which he participated in the 2019 World Cup, is on R6 100; Braam van Straaten’s own Springbok jersey is currently on R10 000, and a replica of Bryan Habana’s jersy stands at R5 500.

Other items include a Blue Bulls jersey; a beautiful Path to Glory sketch; a framed Springbok jersey from 2004; a Blue Bulls legends picture; a WP rugby jersey from 2007; three Springbok jerseys; a picture of Griquas Curry Cup champions in 1970; drawings of Jacques Fourie, Mannetjies Roux, Japie Mulder and Danie Gerber – signed by all four; a picture of Currie Cup champions Griquas of 1970; a vintage leather rugby ball (which is unobtainable elsewhere); a Super Springbok-vintage rugby ball; Robbie Kempson’s original Sharks jersey that he sported in the Curry Cup final of 1996; Braam van Straaten’s jersey that he wore in the Griquas’s Vodacom final in 2005; a picture of the Three Nation championships, signed by Jake White; and many more.

Another special item is the boxing glove of Brian Mitchel Golden, signed by him, which has already reached R10 000. There also are a framed picture of Wayde van Niekerk after having set a new world record (standing on R3 000); a framed picture of Gary Player, the “Black Knight”, with all the five majors that he won; and an exclusive bottle of wine that has already reached R3 600.
