Braam van Straaten to auction off his own Springbok rugby blazer

Braam van Straaten, former Springbok rugby player, will be auctioning off his own prized Springbok blazer in an effort to support the #care4kings initiative.

Van Straaten, the former coach of the Southern Kings, started the #care4kings initiative after the Kings received the news on 19 September, 2020 that they will not be paid. The Kings are insolvent.

Following this devastating news, van Straaten started to get rugby enthusiasts, previous and current players and the public, involved to support this initiative to financially support the players and staff until they are back on their feet.

An online auction will be held on 16 & 17 October, 2020, where several sports memoriabilia will be auctioned off.

To register for this auction, keep an eye on the #care4kings social media pages on Facebook and Instagram.

In a video released today, van Straaten speaks from Glentana beach, as he puts on his blazer.

“As a rugby player, rugby has given me so much. The game has taught me a lot, it has made me who I am. Today, I want to donate my Springbok blazer to the kings cause. Putting this blazer on today feels like yesterday. It brings back so many good memories. I hope this blazer can make a difference in our #care4kings cause.

“This blazer will go on auction on 16 and 17 October. From myself, the coaches, the players, the staff of the Southern Kings, keep well, look after yourself and God bless.”
