NOORD-KAAP – Operation Eagle Eye II, ’n multidissiplinêre misdaadvoorkomingsoperasie het op 28 Augustus in die John Taolo Gaetsewe-distrik afgeskop en na groot sukses in die Namakwa-distrik afgesluit.
Tydens die operasie is dwelms en onwettige sigarette gekonfiskeer. ’n Drankwinkeleienaar het ’n boete ontvang en die drankwinkel is summier toegemaak. Menige drankwinkels, tavernes en eetplekke is besoek.

NORTHERN CAPE: Operation Eagle Eye II, a multi-disciplinary crime prevention operation included law enforcement agencies such as South African Police Service,Crime Intelligence, South African Defence Force and Officials from the Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison kicked started with a bang on the Friday,28 August 2020 in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District and wrapped-up in the Namakwa District on Monday, 31 August 2020.
The police in the John Taolo Gaetsewe and Namakwa Districts left no stone unturned during Operation Eagle Eye II, when various crime generating items were confiscated during the Operation. The focus of the Operation was to disrupt criminal activities, illegal firearms, drugs, stolen vehicles and contraband tobacco products.
Focus was also on compliance inspection at liquor stores, taverns and restaurants posthumous relaxation of Covid-19 Lock down Regulations, Level 2.
Major General Johan Bean, District Commissioner of the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, the overall commander led from the front, conducting stop and searches.
Several premises were identified and raided where drugs, huge sums of cash which is suspected to be generated illegally were confiscated.
The MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Ms Nobandla Bloem joined the group Friday evening and addressed the members on parade before they executed their duties.
In her address she applauded the law enforcement agencies for their selflessness and diligence in their effort to combat crime. The MEC formed part of the compliance inspection and visits to taverns in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District.
Several houses suspected to be crime dens were simultaneously raided in both John Taolo Gaetsewe and Namakwa Districts.
During the raids an enquiry docket was opened after suspected contraband cigarettes were found at one of the premises in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District.
Crystal Meth to the value of R25 000, cash amounting to R28 000 which is believed to the proceeds of the sale of drugs was seized.
A tavern situated in the Kuruman CBD was also visited, and the owner was slapped with a fine of R5 000 for Contravening Covid-19 Lockdown Regulations, Level 2. The tavern was closed with immediate effect.
On 30 August 2020 , phase 2 of Operation Eagle Eye II was executed in the Namaqua district where Mandrax tablets were confiscated at various premised in the Springbok area. Raids were also conducted at several houses in Port Nolloth.

The District Commander of the John Taolo Gaetsewe, Major General Johan Bean sent a strong warning to those who are continuing to disregard Covid-19 Lockdown Regulations. “We will continue to stamp the authority of the state, by enforcing the law without fear or favor” he said.
