While the state of disaster has ended, the Covid-19 Vaccine Compensation Fund will remain in place for now.

President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation on Monday evening to announce the end of the State of Disaster.

The purpose of the Covid-19 Vaccine Injury No-Fault Compensation Scheme is to provide compensation to those who suffered harm, loss or damages as a result of the Covid-19 vaccine. This also ensured that no medical facility, health practitioner or pharmaceutical company would be held liable.

It remains unclear as to how long the COVID-19 Vaccine Compensation Fund will remain as President Cyril Ramaphosa said it will be terminated “once it has achieved its purpose.”
