Paul Scholes has lambasted Ralf Rangnick’s decision of selecting Manchester United’s captain Harry Maguire in his starting line-up that played Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League last-16 yesterday.
Scholes feels that Maguire hasn’t been doing well lately and he cost the club while there’s Victor Lindelof who hasn’t been given a chance.

Speaking to BT Sport, the former United midfielder said, ” The manager has shown faith in him to keep playing him, considering the form he’s been in. For me, the worry is what does this say about [Victor] Lindelof?
“When he’s played, Lindelof has done okay. Nice and steady, not many mistakes. It seems everything Harry is doing has turned into an absolute disaster.”
Maguire, who was bought by Man United from Leicester City with £80 million, has been under terrific pressure this season with his form being too awful to go unnoticed.

However, Scholes’s former teammate Rio Ferdinand begged to differ as he said the captains in general must play.
“I think Rangnick is giving him the chance to perform,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
“He’s the captain of the football club. Captains at football clubs, in general, play. Harry himself will know he’s been struggling for form recently – and when it’s going against you, you tend to get punished for making mistakes time and time again.”
