More than 100 African hippos descended from the Pablo Escobar’s imported “cocaine” hippos face an uncertain future in Colombia.
The Colombian government added Escobar’s “cocaine” hippos to a list of “introduced, invasive species” on Friday, leading experts to say that killing them may be the only viable option.
Officials have said that the hippos threaten local wildlife and humans living in the river.
Attempts were made to sterilize the hippos but it was expensive and difficult so culling remains on the table.
