The police in KwaZulu-Natal arrested a triple murder suspect in Ntambanana, Empangeni on Wednesday, 2 February. The suspect is allegedly linked to the murders of security guards in the area.
The SAPS spokesperson in KwaZulu-Natal said that three security guards were allegedly shot and killed in a vehicle at Othini Reserve, Ntambanana on 5 January.
The security guards were identified as Sibusiso Zwane, 43, Mxolisi Shabalala, 37, and Bongani Gumede, 38. The suspects fled from the scene on foot.
On Wednesday, a 30-year-old suspect visited a traditional healer’s house in Ntambanana in an attempt to cleanse himself, said the police spokesperson, which is where he was arrested.
“The suspect was found in a vehicle in unlawful possession of an AK47 rifle loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition and a security radio,” said the police spokesperson.
According to the police’s initial investigation, the vehicle used by the triple murder suspect was reported stolen in Tongaat in January. The assault rifle will be sent for ballistic testing.
The suspect appeared before the Ngwelezane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of murder and he is expected to make another appearance on Friday.
