A Ukrainian man who was conscripted into the country’s National Guard allegedly went on a shooting rampage that resulted in the deaths of five people, said officials.
Artemiy Ryabchuk started shooting early on Thursday morning at the Pivdenmash aerospace plant. He then tried to flee but was later discovered and arrested.
Five people died, four soldiers were among the dead, and five others were injured.
No motive has been established yet and there has been no suggestion that the incident relates to the heightened tension between Ukraine and Russia.
Russia has built up tens of thousands of troops and arsenal at Ukraine’s border, and multiple countries have warned of an invasion.
