McDonald’s in some parts of the world has a shortage of chips and hash browns that are now forcing them to remove these items from the menu.
The shortfall is due to a global shortage of potatoes. Japan and Taiwan apparently have the biggest potato shortages and the items could possibly also be removed from African menus.
Shortage of chips and hash browns
South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported Monday that Japan has suspended sales for its medium and large fries and only allows its customers to buy small portions.
The restriction on chips was caused by a delay in the import of potatoes from Canada, with the fast food chain saying the restriction is expected to last for a month.
South Africa’s leading manufacturers of potato chips have also issued warnings about the shortage of potatoes.
