If you are a hunter living in Gauteng, there’s good news for you. Hunters are now explicitly allowed to cross the Gauteng border – as long as they’re hunting for meat.
Environment minister, Barbara Creecy, published a short set of lockdown rules for the biodiversity sector on Monday. This forms part of the process where cabinet ministers set out the ground rules of lockdown rules within their spheres of responsibility.
Under these new rules, game parks, botanical gardens, zoos and aquariums may remain open and the ban on leisure travel to and from Gauteng has been softened for some, namely hunters.
“Inter-provincial travel to or from Gauteng is permitted for hunting with the primary purpose of obtaining meat for consumption, and culling,” read the directions in the rules.
