Efforts to enforce compliance in terms of the Regulations of the Disaster Management Act , level 4 continues unabated in the greater Kimberley as members attached to provincial components under the command of Brig Nicky Mills are out in full force in the streets of Kimberley.
Duties include compliance inspections to businesses, taxi ranks, schools, government buildings, churches and shopping complexes.
Members today, conducted two vehicle check points (VCP’S) at different locations on the R31 between Kimberley and Barkley-West.
A total of 321 vehicles , 530 drivers and passengers were stopped to check for compliance in terms permits, compliance in terms of wearing masks and restricted travelling. Three firearms were checked, nine traffic fines were issued amounting to R9 700-00.
In an unrelated incident today, 11 May 2020 , W/O Piet Hugo and constables Gwen Paulsen and Conrad Ryland attached to the Provincial Detectives arrested a 32 year male foreign national after he warned yesterday and after the follow up visit today, continued selling cigarettes in contravention of the Disaster Management Act Regulations on tobacco products.
The suspect was arrested in his shop in Schmidsdrift road.
Tobacco products to value of R65 000-00 was confiscated.
Brig Mills stated that the police will continue to relentlessly to enforce the regulation and stamp down the authority of the state during level 4 of the lockdown period.
