One of the biggest imported sneaker selling businesses in South Africa was established in 2020 when four friends decided to follow their dreams.

Rok A Fela was started by Pule Phasiwe, Vuyani Motona, Thato Tlali and Thato Tsaoane when they realized that a huge gap in the sneaker industry existed in South Africa.

Rok A Fela recently celebrated one year in the sneaker industry.

The four friends were born and raised in Ladybrand and are now respectively working and studying in Bloemfontein, Turkey and the Northern Cape.

“The company has reached a stage whereby it has distributed a lot of shoes throughout the country. Everywhere we go, we at least see one or two people wearing our shoes. It is a huge honour for us to see.”

One of the new brands Rok A Fela is distributing now, is the brand Boa.

Phasiwe says there are only a few of these sneakers in stock, but they will be stocking up more on them soon.

Phasiwe says he is very excited to announce the new line of clothing Rok A Fela has started. “We’ve already found a few companies in South Africa that produce quality clothes. We will be producing quality!”

“For the clothes we’ve hired young, black designers, some of them have graduated already and some are still studying.”

At the moment Rok A Fela has three permanent employees.

“As young as we are, we are trying to make sure we bring employment in South Africa. With Covid-19 so many people and so many companies went broke and had to let people go. We are trying by all means to make sure that our graduates, people who are studying or people who are done studying, have jobs.”
