During an investigation by BBC Panorama, they discovered that thousands of racehorses were being sent to slaughterhouses in Britain and Ireland.
Some of these slaughtered racehorses once belonged to some of the biggest names in the racing community.
Through covert recordings BBC Panorama, were able to show how the rules that were designed to protect horses from suffering a cruel death were apparently regularly ignored by one of the UK’s biggest abattoirs.
According to an expert, this covert footage, from cameras that was installed by te campaign group Animal Aid, is evidence of clear breaches of the regulations.
The investigation also revealed the number of horses that have been slaughtered in Britain and Ireland since the start of 2019, which is approximately 4 000 former racehorses.
